10 Slackline Tricks That Will Impress Your Friends

Slacklining is a young sport, but is fast gaining popularity among devotees. As the name suggests, this sport is performed on a slackline, which is line made of nylon webbing that is strung between two objects, usually trees. Commercial slacklines can be a bit pricey, but you can build a DIY version to save some money.

If you are new to slacklining, you will want to first master a few tricks before you perform in front of your friends. You can be certain that you will be the talk of the town!

Here are 10 slackline tricks that will make your friends’ jaw drop!

  1. Balancing- This is a basic trick, but you will need to master it to perform most other tricks that you perform on the slackline. Try balancing with your feet positioned sideways. You will find that this trick changes your whole balance stance. Even though it is a fundamental trick, your friends will be amazed to see you standing on the slackline!
  2. Turn Around or Pivot- Use your feet to turn around. Initially, you will end up pausing with your feet turned sideways. Once you master it, the pause will be eliminated and you will be able to pivot gracefully leaving most onlookers spellbound.
  3. Walk Backwards- This is another trick that requires practice, but can awe your audience. Make sure you keep your eyes focused and concentrate on placing the balls of your feet on the slackline as you walk backwards. Once you do this, just transfer your weight back onto your heels.
  4. Jump Mount- Try practicing to jump mount the slackline. You can do this by either jumping forward or backwards. Usually, the backward mount is more stable and you will not lose your balance, as you will naturally lean forward to take into account your momentum.
  5. Posing- This particular trick is bound to impress your friends. Show them different poses of yoga and watch how they gasp! If you are good at body contortion, try doing them on the slackline for a more impressive act.
  6. Juggling- Once you learn to mount and walk on the slackline, it is time to bring out your juggling pins and impress your friends. If you want, you also can juggle balls, books or anything else you can think of. This is one slackline trick that can really be impressive, as it requires you to master two art forms.
  7. Jump 360 Degrees- While standing on the slackline, jump a full 360-degree and land firmly back onto the slackline. Not only will this get your friends gasping, they will be impressed with your prowess. If you are uncomfortable with the 360-degree rotation, start with 180 degrees.
  8. Cycling- Okay, now this will really impress your friends. Walking on a slackline is tough, but cycling is the ultimate slackline trick you can think of. This trick is sure to get your friends’ adrenalin pumping and they will want to try out slacklining too!
  9. Play Frisbee- Get your friends to throw you a Frisbee and show them how adept you are at balancing yourself on the slackline while catching the Frisbee. It is not only fun, but you also can demonstrate your slacklining skills, especially when you have to jump sky high to catch the Frisbee.
  10. Handstand- Doing a handstand on the ground is difficult. So you can imagine how difficult it would be on a slackline. Perform a handstand and ensure you keep your balance. With enough practice you are sure to master this trick and leave any audience dumbstruck!
